If you buy paper rolls frequently, you probably use them in a cash register, credit card reader, or adding machine. These are tiny rolls of paper that are incredibly thin and have a striking resemblance to one another. There are some variances, albeit they are minor, and they can affect a number of things, including the price you pay and the paper's print.

Thermal Rolls
That much is obvious: if you have a thermal printer, you must use thermal paper. Do you, however, understand what thermal paper is or how it functions?
Because thermal paper is covered with a mixture of chemicals and dye, it is not the same as bond paper. The dye will react with the chemicals when the paper is heated above its melting point, changing the hue (usually black, but sometimes red or blue). The machine's print head is able to heat the appropriate spots on the paper, rendering the print legible.
Thermal Paper Layers
Thermal paper is made up of three layers, yet its appearance might lead you to believe otherwise. These layers consist of:
Paper serves as the base layer.
Alkali salts, gelatin, and starches are used to make the base layer, which acts as a binding substance. This allows the heat to permeate the paper.
The chemicals that cause the paper to react to heat are present in the active layer.
Some varieties of thermal paper also have a fourth layer, known as the protection layer, that is an additional layer. The paper won't fade as a result of this.
How to Recognize Thermal Paper
After learning how thermal paper functions, you must learn how to recognize it. You must read the packaging because thermal and bond paper rolls have the same appearance. It will indicate whether you have bond paper or thermal paper. When you touch the paper, you can feel the change as well. Bond paper is exactly like regular paper, whereas thermal paper feels slippery to the touch and is challenging to write on with a pen.
When to Use Bond Paper?
If you don’t have a thermal printer, you will need to purchase bond paper rolls. These will not contain any type of chemical coating and similar to traditional copy paper.
Make sure you take the time to figure out what type of paper your credit card printer needs, otherwise, you will not be able to print anything. Thermal paper won’t work in machines that require bond paper, and vice versa. When you know what you need, you will be able to print without issues.
